SARATOGA SPRINGS – Shenendehowa coach Mark Thompson made certain to use the words “soundly beaten” when he talked about where his team stood with three-quarters of a mile left in the Class AA race the Section 2 championships. But whether it was catching a glimpse of the finish line or the sight of sectional championship and berth to the state meet fading away, Shen summoned something in that final stretch.
SARATOGA SPRINGS – When the race was over and the scores were tallied; after the runners had done all they could and accepted the result, Burnt Hills coach Shaun Zepf walked over to Queensbury coach Bob Underwood and gripped his shoulders and shook him behind – a playful gesture and ended in a congratulatory hug.
The qualifying meets for the NYSPHSAA Championships will be held Thursday-Saturday this weekend. Over fifty different races will be held to determine which team gets to represent their section and try to win a NY State Championships.
