(Photo by Paul Everett) National championship fever is spreading across the country. The world of prep cross country begins its ascent to the national finals. Many will seek individual honors at either the historic Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships or Nike Cross National Championships. Nike Cross Nationals will offer the Team National Championship.

PLATTSBURGH -- This season seemed destined to be a special one for Fayetteville-Manilus. On paper, it housed the best squad around. Even when Alex Hatz missed the better part of the season after having kidney surgery in August, many believed that FM would still be the best team in the state.

Alex Deir wins title and helps squad win HFL team crown as well.

Megan Young of Nanuet uses nice kick to win the state title. East Aurora girls win again.

Aisling Cuffe of Cornwall destroyed the field to win in 17:001., a new course record. Queensbury girls won team title.

Fayetteville-Manlius sweeps the top 5 places to win the NYS title - something never done before in state history.
Roslyn senior Emily Lipari, the two-time defending Class A state champion, will sit out what would have been her final cross country state meet. Lipari said felt pain in her ankle after the Section 8 conference championships but ran through the discomfort all week and even at the Section 8 championships.

Katie Weisenburger of Pulaski takes title but Greenwich girls roll to win with 24 points.

Pawling's Brandon Freyer edges out Max Straneva of Chenango Valley. Holland Patent wins team title.

Otis Ubriaco leads Burnt Hills to team title as he takes the individual crown.

Fayetteville-Manlius overcomes some illness to win the state title. Nick Hughes of North Rockland win crown in 15:27, fastest time of the day.

Mike Champagne of Seton Catholic, running in front of his home crowd, repeats as champion. Barker wins team title.
PLATTSBURGH – People often talk about how the greatest athletes create challenges for themselves or invent doubters that otherwise do not exist. It’s rare that an entire team has to create imaginary resistance or in this case, turn on each other.
