Marco Bertolotti spread his arms wide when the crossed he finish line. It was a meek celebration for a spectacular victory. The Port Washington junior could have just as easily been spreading his arms to hug the first person that would have him.
Cardozo has a new star. Her name is Chamique Francis and she’s making sure that people remember it. Francis, a sophomore, won the invitational 400 meters Saturday at the Hispanic Games in 55.48, the fastest time in the United States so far this season.
There would be no ceremonial glassware or automatic invitation to the Millrose Games, the spoils heaped upon the victor of the annual Hispanic Games mile. However, Doug Smith did not depart the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory empty handed last Saturday. In fact, the Gil-St. Bernard’s star headed back to New Jersey with something far more valuable – his confidence.
Over 1500 photos posted from the action on Saturday at the Hispanic Gamesa nd from the races last night at the Millrose Trials. Portrait shots of all the qualifiers from last night are also posted courtesy veteran track and field photographer Errol Anderson.
