New York high school track and field athletes posted personal records across multiple events during the week of May 25.
Zainab Olaleye (Central Islip) ran 15.48 in the 100-meter hurdles at the Section XI County A Championships on May 26, improving from her previous best of 16.65 set in May 2026. The time ranks #50 in New York state and #5 among sophomores, establishing a new school record for Central Islip. Olaleye placed fifth among 28 competitors.
Emilia Hill (Westhampton Beach) cleared 5-2 in the high jump at the Section XI County C Championships on May 27, bettering her previous mark of 4-10 from May 2026. The senior won the event among 12 competitors and ranks #55 in the state and #23 among seniors.
Mikaela Turpin (Walt Whitman) clocked 12.59 in the 100 meters at the Section XI County A Championships on May 26, dropping from her previous time of 13.18. The sophomore finished fifth of 18 runners and ranks #132 in New York and #31 among sophomores.
Abigail Caputo (Minisink Valley) ran 10:23.94 in the 3000 meters at the Section 9 Class B Championship on May 29, improving from 10:57.78. The freshman won the race among 15 competitors, ranks #71 in the state, and set a school record. Caputo also recorded personal bests in the 1500 meters (4:50.80, down from 5:31.40) and 800 meters (2:24.46, down from 2:25.19) at the same meet.
Jayden Ecker (West Seneca West) jumped 19-7.25 in the long jump at the Section VI Class AA Championships on May 27, extending her previous best of 18-9 from May 2026. The senior won the event among 14 competitors, ranks #4 in New York and #2 among seniors, and broke the school record. Ecker also set a personal record in the triple jump (38-3.5, up from 36-9.5) at the same meet.
Sofia Chiariello (Saint Anthony's) threw 133-3 in the hammer throw at the Eastern States Invitational on May 30, improving from her previous mark of 116-0. The junior won among nine competitors and ranks #6 in the state and #3 among juniors. Chiariello also recorded a personal best in the discus (108-10, up from 98-10) at the same meet.
Claire Miller (Riverdale Country Day) ran 5:12.97 in the mile at the John Hay Pennsylvania Distance Festival on May 26, lowering her previous time of 5:27.58 from December 2025. The sophomore placed seventh among 50 runners and ranks #65 in New York and #9 among sophomores.
