Girls 800 tightens as Olicia Williams goes 2:07 at North Shore

St. Anthony's Olicia Williams won the girls 800 meters at the North Shore Invitational in 2:07.8 Saturday, the sixth-fastest time in the Unitied States and second-best in New York State. Williams finished ahead of Harborfields junior Kelsey Margey, who placed second in 2:11.0.


Williams's performance brings more intrigue to the race for supremacy in the 800 this season. Cardozo senior Claudia Francis clocked 2:08.21 at the Loucks Games Saturday at White Plains for the state's third-best time. Mary Cain of Bronxville -- the freshman who's been ripping through the rankings in every event from the 400 to the 3,000 -- currently leads the state in 2:06.44.


Other notable performances included Mary Anselimini's victory in the 3,000 for Ward Melville in 9:48.5. Kellenberg's Michelle Anthony won the 100 hurdles in 14.3 and Janel Francis of Copiague won the 100 in 12.1. Joe Fuller of Longwood also scored a victory in the 400 in 48.7, the fifth-fastest time in the state this season. Baldwin also joined the top mile relays in the state, winning the 4x400 in 3:18.5, the second-fastest time in the state this season.
