Robeson grad Sammy Lazhir involved in fatal car accident

Sammy Lazhir, an 18-year old recent grad of Paul Robeson in Brooklyn, was killed alongside a college teammate Monday after being involved in a two-car accident on US -160 in Kansas.

Lazhir (pictured on right) was a freshman on the cross country team at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kansas. According to reports, he was traveling in a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck with teammate Tyler Martin, also 18, of Georgetown, Texas,when Martin pulled out from an intersection and was hit by a tractor trailer headed southbound.

Lazhir was taken to Mercy Hospital in Independence and declared dead Monday evening. According to reports, the Kansas Highway Patrol said that Martin did not allow sufficient clearance to cross the highway. Both teenagers were wearing seat belts.
