Fayetteville-Manlius dominated in its debut meet at the Chittenango Invitational, scoring a perfect 15 points in Division 1 with its top runner Courtney Chapman Saturday at Jamesville Beach County Park. Chapman called FM coach Bill Aris with 101-degree fever and Aris decided to keep her out.
“I think it’s a 24 to 48-hour thing,” Aris said. “We decided to run without her and let her rest. She’ll be back just fine.”
FM posted a 31-second 4-man compression without the senior, led by junior Christie Rutledge, who wasn’t even on the 7-man squad that won FM’s fourth straight national title last year. Rutledge won in 17:20.3 on the 3.1-course. Jillian Fanning followed in second 17:32.6.
Christine Driscoll of Geneva (17:36.1) finished third overall but did not have a scoring team.
