Byron Bergen Invitational

Summary from Section 6 Runs

Believe it or not, as a freshman at Cornwall High during the fall of 2007, Aisling Cuffe, the current US #1 in the girls’ 5,000 meters, sat on a soccer bench and played the part of spectator.

It’s hard to picture now, considering Cuffe’s prolific running arc since that blip on the radar during her fall freshman campaign, but it is in fact true.

Jim Smith Invitational - Connetquot's Zach Krause leads a top three sweep in the senior race and is only runner to go under 17:00 on the day (16:56).  St. John the Baptist's Anne Carey has best time of the day in 20:25 on the historically slow course famous for "Cardiac Hill".

Weekend Preview

So this is truly the opening weekend in NY.  Last weekend was just a tease.  ArmoryTrack.com's Christopher Hunt will be on site at The Suffern Invitational, one of the biggest early season meets in lower NY with over 40 schools attending.

ArmoryTrack.com's Tim Fulton will be on site at The Boathouse Big Red Invitational where 35 schools from lower NY will toe the line.  Arlington, Brewster, Washingtonville, and Somers boys look to be the top entries while the Arlington and Pearl River girls are the top girls entries.

Some teams will travel out of state this weekend.  St. Anthony's will head to the PTXC 2 Invitational in Lancaster, PA.  The meet is hosted by milesplit.com's PA affiliate, PennXC.com.

Fayetteville-Manlius is entered in the Chittenango Invitational and will race all of their top runners before taking a month off before their next race, The Manhattan College Invitational.

Many teams from the CHSAA in NYC will head to either the CHSAA Practice meet at Van Cortlandt Park or the Rob Breen Invitational on Staten Island.  Other teams way opt to join their Long Island neighbors at Sunken Meadow State Park for the Jim Smith Invitational

Section 2, always the best region for XC in the country, has a few invitationals this weekend.  The Blackbird Invitational, Guilderland Invitational, and the Ed Springstead Invitational should all give us some insite into The Capital Region this season.

Coaches and meet directors are encouraged to send us meet entries, race assignments, results, pictures, and anything else you'd like us to post. (course maps, directions, etc).
