Boys Class D Preview
Individual Snapshots - Section by Section - Top Team Breakdowns
Last year, we saw an athlete is Class D vie for the overall title of top runner in the State. Adam Furman (Tri-Valley) put together several performances at or over the 190 Speed Rating barrier, and finished Top 10 in the merge at States. His success led his team to victory as well, serving as a guidepost for his younger brother, also on the team, to follow.
One year later, and Furman is now in College. But Class D has another star, one who battled injury before having a breakthrough Spring Season, to catapult him as one of the State's Top Runners. Roan Kelly (Randolph) is the reigning Spring State Champion for 1600m, running 4:11. He also had success in XC, taking Top 10 at both Feds and Regionals. Now, he leads Class D. The younger Furman, Van, is actually the top returner in the State, however, and has the family tradition of winning to protect. It could create a high stakes race when we return to VVS.
On the team front, Tri-Valley lost three of their Top 5, and four of their Top 7 to graduation. They still have the pieces to be competitive, but it opens the door for Oakfield-Alabama, to move to the favorite position heading into September. Their lead guy, Connor Domoy, could have his own stake on the Individual title, and with the team motivation behind him, anything can happen.
