Six Events To Watch At The Ocean Breeze Freedom Games

Girls Sprint

What: Girls 300m

When: 1:50pm

Why: There's a nice mix of known quantities, and quick rising newcomers looking to round out the field. New York is bringing their top public school athletes in Analisse Batista (Huntington), while PA is sending their best in Sanaa Hebron (Neshaminy), all to try to handle CT's best in Alanna Smith (Danbury).  Smith has been on a tear this Season in this event, after gaining strength as an XC runner. She's already nearly matched the PR's of the other two main challengers in the field, running 38.86 to beat Hebron head-to-head at North Shore.

While the other two's PR's are only 0.05 seconds off from each other, with Hebron getting the nod at 38.75, it's been a little wider gap in 2022 between the NY And PA challengers. Hebron comes in with a Season Best of 38.94 at the North Shore Invite over at the Armory, while Batista carries a 39.94 from the Armory this Season. However, this is the Track that holds States, so the top seeded athlete so far will want to defend her home turf.

Rounding out the field is Kortney Brown (Curtis), whose last 300m was way back at States in 2020. Such has been the issue for PSAL athletes trying to find a track, but her mark of 40.38 as a sophomore is respectable. We'll be able to see the work that's been put in the last two years on the starting line.
