Warm Weather Awaited A Fast Federation Championship - Recap

Girls Individual Race

Breakdown

Katelyn Tuohy returned to the hills of Bowdoin, putting together her best race of the season.  As is typical, Tuohy got out hard, and broke the field early.  By halfway, she had a 25-second gap on the field, a distance that would only grow as the race went on.  She crossed the line just over 17mins, generating her best Speed Rating of the Season.  Tuohy is now a 2-Time Federation Champion, despite the meet being snowed out in 2018.  In addition, she re-broke her own Senior Class Course Record, one that which she broke by two seconds back at Sectionals.

Behind her, there was a duel playing out, but not the one we expected.  Potentially resting for next week, Jenna Schulz did not toe the line with her team.  Instead, it was Ella Kurto who was battling with Karrie Baloga through the early points of the race.  At 1.5miles, the pair were still dead even, demonstrating the strength of the sport moving forward for years to come.  In the backhills, Baloga pulled away, and broke Kurto to finish second overall.  Her time of 17:59.90 is just three seconds shy of Erin Davis' Freshman Course Record, a mark which could be challenged next week if Baloga opts for NXR.  In 4th, Ava Jolley takes home a big performance, bumping her Speed Rating best two points from States.

Correction: Kelsey Chmiel set the freshman record in 2015, at 17:50.
