2019 NY Girls XC Preview: Class A

Section by Section Class A Overview

SectionTop TeamsNotes
1North Rockland, Arlington, Suffern, Carmel, Ursuline, Scarsdale
North Rockland may have enough depth to contend for a state title, but Arlington and Suffern could make things interesting here.
2Shenendehowa, Saratoga, Shaker, Niskayuna, Bethlehem, Colonie, Columbia, Guilderland, Colonie, Shaker, Rome Free Academy, Ballston SpaFive of the top 10 teams in the state preseason speed ratings for Class A are packed into S2-A within 13 TR points of each other, but Shen with its top 4 back plus a transfer pickup from Saratoga has the good compression balance at this point.
3Fayetteville-Manlius, Liverpool, Cicero-North Syracuse, West Genesee, Baldwinsville, West Genesee, Rome Free Academy
FM is a decided favorite this year in S3-A and rated #2 in the nation, but Liverpool is close enough and with its tradition of strong season development could make another run for NXN.
4Ithaca, Corning, Elmira Express, HorseheadsNot much to separate Corning and Ithaca in the preseason, but the Little Red have better depth and compression.
5Brighton, Fairport, Webster Thomas,  Irondequoit, Hilton, Canandaigua, Rush-Henrietta
The S5-A has four teams within 3 points of each other in the preseason ratings plus a handful of other teams that are not too far back. We'll just have to see who and what develops.
6West Seneca West, Clarence, LancasterDespite losing its top 3, West Seneca West may still be the best team out in S6-A.
7No representatives
8Syosset, Garden City
Syosset should have enough returning talent to once again win S8-A.
9Cornwall, Warwick Valley, Washingtonville, FDR, Monroe-Woodbury
Monroe-Woodbury was slammed silly by graduation while Cornwall moves up from a States B title with a largely intact squad and Warwick Valley has enough depth to cause some trouble..
10No representatives
11Ward Melville, Riverhead, Sachem East, Bay Shore
Ward Melville finished 4th in the S11-A last year but was the only one of the top 5 teams that was not hit hard by graduation.
