Girls Races
Varsity 1
Individual: Mary Hennelly's (Suffern) season keeps getting better and better with each race, and it doesn't look like the sophomore is ready to stop any time soon. After posting a winning time that almost separated her and second place, Mary Borkoski (Pearl River), by almost a minute, and being the only girl in this race to break 19 minutes, she is more than ready to return in two weeks time to tackle the course for the Section 1 title.
Team: This has been a strong season for Pearl River, with them dominating the first girls race of the day. Not only were their top 5 in the top 15, but their 6th team scorer also broke into the top 15 as well. Although it was a great effort from Warwick Valley, with them getting their top 5 runners in the top 20, it wasn't enough to overtake the lady Pirates.
Varsity 2
Individual: This was the most anticipated race that everyone was awaiting for throughout the entire day. Everyone lined the course to watch the top New York State runner, Katelyn Tuohy (North Rockland), take on the number 3 runner in the state, Brooke Rauber (Tully). It was no competition, though, as Katelyn soared to a win in 17:28.6, nabbing the number 3 time ever run by a female high schooler on this course. She used this race as a workout today (even doing one after she finished), and with knowing that she has a few more races to run on this course before the season ends, she's looking to go after the course record on a later date.
Team: It wasn't only Katelyn Tuohy that had success for North Rockland today. The entire team itself excelled as a whole, and Haleigh Morales, who's coming fresh off a stress fracture she's been dealing with the entire season, rounded off the top 3 in the race individually. They snagged the top spot, with Cornwall not able to close a 29-point gap and Bronxville having too much to make up with 47 points.
Varsity 3
Individual: Alexandra Thomas (Tappan Zee) was able to achieve the coveted first place spot in her varsity race today, finally breaking out of her 2nd and 3rd place streak she was on. She said that although her speed rating predicted her to finish on top, she didn't want to undersell her competition from Monroe-Woodbury, where Jessica Pidgeon and Julia Hoyt were right up there with her. However, once she realized she was feeling strong after conquering the dreaded back-hill, she overtook them at that point and never looked back.
Team: It was no denying that Monroe-Woodbury was going to be the team to come out victorious today. After being predicted to do so, they definitely did not disappoint, with all seven varsity runners finishing in the top 15. Tappan Zee did put up a fight, and knowing that the Carmel team was not in their race, the made sure they fought for their place on the podium. Irondequoit was moreover competing for third place against Stuyvesant, who they edged out by 4 points.
Varsity 4
Individual: In the final girls race, and the last varsity race overall for the day, Caroline Timm (Lourdes) made sure she put on a show, wiping out the competition by 19 seconds. It was supposed to be a fight between the runners of John Jay Cross River and Notre Dame Academy, but Timm stepped up to the plate, not allowing the heat to hinder her stellar performance. With Pippa Nuttall (John Jay Cross River) and Keiana Mitchell (Notre Dame Academy) coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively, there was no telling which team would take number 1 right off the bat.
Team: It wasn't until we saw John Jay Cross River post their team scorers in the top 10 that we knew it was their race. They posted the lowest team score across the board today, gathering an astounding 27 points that no one else was able to compete with. Not to take away from Notre Dame Academy's success, they were able to place every runner of theirs in the top 20, allowing them to walk away with a score of 45, with the bronze team of Clarkstown South using their 108 points to give them their placement.
