Breakdown: Under near-perfect conditions in the early morning race, freshman Brooke Rauber cemented herself in meet history by shattering the freshman course record by 15 seconds. The mark is now the eighth-fastest time ever run on the Genesee Valley Course, and Rauber was the only girl under 17 minutes on the day. The race started out fast, with a talented field limited to two at the front by one mile. Hayleigh Palotti was only a stride behind Rauber at that point, and clear of any challengers. But Rauber accelerated from the danger, knowing Palotti had the track speed that secured her a state title last year. Rauber would take the win, and Palotti would get her own personal record on the course. Abbey Copperwheat also broke 18 minutes on the course, taking third.
Breakdown: It was all Maple Grove in the front of this race, as expected. With three in unison at the front of the race, it was just about getting the next two in. They did so, with the tightest compression of the field. On the back end, Waterloo was the biggest surpise of the day, taking down fellow class C and defending state champs, Newfane. This could be a close battle later in the season.
