Class C

New York State Class C Boys Cross Country Rankings - 11/9/08
Section indicated by number in parenthesis next to school name.
1. Newark Valley (4) Oh what a race it was to watch!! Defending state champions hold on to the title for another year by besting Holland Patent by just 1 point at the state meet. There were head to head battles throughout the race between these two powers, as the #2 guys on both teams finished within 1 second of each other, and the 9 sec. spread for the #3-4 for NV was forming a sandwich around the #3-4 for HP. Everybody did what they could to pull it out. A great win for the 4 seniors on this squad.
2. Holland Patent (3) A tough 1 point loss for these boys but next year they return 4 of their top 5 and their soph. #6 was only 19 sec. behind the graduating senior on the team.
3. Jordan Elbridge (3) A heart-breaking loss last week to HP, however it didn’t slow down Cody Stanton and Mike Marrero at the state meet. Stanton was 5th overall and Marrero was 13th. With no seniors on this team it looks to be ready to battle HP next fall for team bragging rights at the state meet. Another great year to look forward to for the fans in section 3.
4. Tully (3) Another top section 3 team that had a representative at the state meet Saturday. Ohure Sam finished 11th in the race.
5. Irvington (1) Section 1 was well represented by the Irvington team and their flock of fans in green. This team improved to 3rd. place overall with the great finishes of Saliani and Mathews in 7th and 12th respectively.
6. Gowanda (6) 4th place finish at the state meet with Nielson leading the team in at 20th place overall, 8th in team scoring. Freshman, Kevin Brown had a great day, running in for a top 30 finish.
7. Canastota (3) Another one of those tough section 3 teams that was very well represented by the individuals from their team that made the trip to the state meet this weekend. Robbie Argentine finishes his high school XC career by placing 2nd. overall, as teammate Aaron Walker was close behind at 6th place overall.
8. James T. O’Neill (9) 5th place finish at the state meet on Saturday. This team has only 1 senior in the top 5 and will be very good again next year.
9. Dobbs Ferry (1) This team was represented at the state meet by the Wortner brothers, Patrick and Brendan. They both finished in the top 30 and will be returning next year to try to help their squad earn a team trip to Plattsburgh.
10. Berne-Knox-Westerlo(2) 6th Place at the state meet. Team was led by freshman, Connor Devine in 41st. place.
11. Pembroke (5) 7th at the state meet with seniors, Bartholomew and Seward leading the team in their final high school XC race.
12. Voorheesville (2) Runners up to B-K-W in section 2 meet by just 1 point, with a 16:59 average and a 155 speed rating. (#6 last week)
13. Rhinebeck (9) Very well represented at the state meet with all 3 individuals finishing within 6 seconds of each other in spots 25, 27, and 29. Lanf is the only senior in this trio and the others will return to battle for a team spot next fall.
14. Oyster Bay (8) 8th place finish at the state meet. Jazwinski and Nakrin, both seniors, finish well in 16th and 17th.
15. Fredonia (6) Runner’s up to Gowanda last week, represented by Thomas Conti at the state meet. Conti finishes his HS career with a top 50 finish.
16. Greece Odyssey (5) Gave Pembroke a battle at the sectional meet and looking to improve on 2nd. place next fall.
17. Waverly (4) 2nd. place at the section 4 meet to powerhouse Newark Valley last week, Mullen finished 79th at the state meet.
18. Chenango Valley (4) Junior, Max Straneva looked almost too comfortable in winning the Class C individual title in 16:25 on Saturday. Congratulations to him and his team for being well represented.
19. Babylon (11) 9th place finish at the state meet. Ian Mathies led the team. Eighth grader, Tyler McGarvey earned a lot of championship experience and will be a runner to watch next season in section 11.
20. Pawling (1) This team will be one to watch next year, as they have no seniors and 8th grader, Jorgensen, finished the season as their #2 guy running 18:39 on the tough Bowdoin Park course.
