8 1260 Anthony Kearse 12 South Shore 6.54 6.54
9 1274 Jovanie Gardner 12 Jfk-Bronx 6.54 6.54
Outlook: Roosevelt’s Kirk Anderson (pictured) has the best FAT in the field, winning the Section 1 state qualifier in 6.42. Kevin Malivert of Ramapo does have a 6.1 hand-time to his credit and probably the most explosive start in the field. Malivert is the leadoff leg on Ramapo 4x200 relay ranked second nationally. Anderson popped a fast race late in the season that shows he could be peaking at the right time.

5 155 Menelik Lewis 12 New Rochelle 7.59 7.59
6 1246 Darryl Bradshaw 11 Sheepshead Bay 7.60 7.60

Outlook: There is no favorite in this race. Mepham’s Chris Parker was disqualified in last year’s state final and had his best race of the season at Eastern States last week, running 7.47 in the final. Jim Keher of Colonie has been consistent and that could give him the edge. Clarkstown South’s Antoine McGill is still a raw power hurdler capable of taking the field as well. Both Menelik Lewis of New Rochelle and Harrison’s Claudio Delli Carpini are seasoned hurdlers that have battled all season. This almost guarantees a blanket-finish.

9 844 Joseph Scher 12 Carey 35.50h 35.74 Conv
10 366 Andre Britton 12 Henninger 35.99 35.99
Outlook: The truth is that not many people outside of Section 1 know much about White Plains senior Tewado Latty. He was one of the top quarter-milers in the state in the spring before he pulled up lame in the final with a strained hamstring. It’s the same hamstring that he’s been nursing for most of the season. He coasted through his state qualifier and ran 48.74 in the 400 at Eastern States last week. Latty is working with relatively fresh legs and the best time in the field, 34.95, which he ran on the flat track at West Point in early January.

9 176 Caleb Duncanson 12 Scarsdale 1:22.74 1:22.74
10 387 Gregory Manning 12 Solvay 1:22.94 1:22.94
Outlook: Peekskill’s Lawrence Campbell (pictured) and Dennis Scruggs of Bellport are the only two in the field to drop below 1:21 in the 600 meters. The thing is that both Campbell and Scruggs have run their best races by running from the front. Campbell also ran is time at the Section 1 state qualifier two weeks ago while Scruggs ran his time in December. Isaiah Mask of Baldwin, James Thurn of Central Square and Cornwall’s Kris Klowe are all contenders and this race has proven in the past that a virtual unknown could be standing atop the podium. Campbell will no doubt take the race out hard and keep the pace honest. If the pack is tight with 100 meters left it’s anyone’s game.

Outlook: Rafal Ksepka of Grover Cleveland ran his personal best, which is the top seed time, while winning the PSAL championships and took at least three glances over his shoulder in the closing stages of the race. That only leaves the belief that he has more to give. Chris Stogsill of Marcellus hasn’t run at the Armory this season so that means he didn’t get the chance to produce his time on such a fast track. Jason Browne of Boys & Girls challenged Ksepka until the last 60 meters at the PSAL meet. Chaminade’s Michael Schieck (pictured) is also a crafty racer with a solid shot to win as well.

Outlook: Half Hollow Hills West senior Kyle Merber (pictured) is by far the class of the field. His win at the Millrose Games and his third place finish at the Boston Indoor Games has put Merber, who committed to Columbia, on the map this season. He could choose to run from the front or sit back as well because Merber also has the best kick in the bunch. Alex Hatz, Giovanni Signoretti and Chris Tonn will have an exciting race for second but don’t be surprised if one or all of them take a shot at Merber as well.

Outlook: Scarsdale’s Julian Sheinbaum (pictured) hasn’t quite had the season yet that he enjoyed during the cross country season. But he did look sharp winning the mile at the Eastern States in 4:20.89. Sheinbaum has the best raw speed in the field so if he comes down to a kick toward the end he’s the best choice. But don’t forget Foot Locker cross country national finalist Pat DuPont of Fairport. He was third in the race that St. Benedict’s Brandon Jarrett tore off a 9:05.35 in the 2-mile at the Pepsi Hall of Fame Classic. Adam Doherty of Arlington is a consistent solid competitor and should be there at the end as well.

OUTLOOK: Midwood (pictured), Hempstead, and Newburgh are all downstate teams that have squared off numerous times this year. Colonie is a tough squad and there are always upstate sleeper teams that haven't run on a banked track this season. Note that Ramapo, the best 4x200 in the state, did not qualify after running the 4x400m trials and finals, the 4x200 trials, and open events. It's hard to pass on a flat track so it could come down to who gets the lead in the middle of the race.

OUTLOOK: Newburgh (pictured) is the top seed and it will be tough to beat them. Remember that the 4x400 is before the 4x200 so that will favor Newburgh since they qualified in both. Ramapo will be hungry. They have one of the fastest time in the country inthe 4x200 at 1:28.85 but lost the qualifier to New Rochelle after running the 4x400. Midwood is togh as well but who knows what they do since their best chance to win is in the 4x200. Bellport has Deniis Scruggs, the best anchor of the lot.

OUTLOOK: Kellenberg (pictured) is the heavy favorite after running 7:47.3 at the Pepsi Hall of Fame to set a new CHSAA record. Their time also ranks them 7th all time in NYS history. Kellenberg, Warwick, and Somers are all fresh for the relay and Colonie has two guys runners individual events. Warwick ran 7:59 at west Point, the fastest anyone has run on a flat track this winter. These races usually stay pretty close at teh state meet and it could come down to whoever saves the most for the achor.

OUTLOOK: Andy Kahl (pictured) and Tomarris Bell are the two heavy favorites here but the high jump usually has some surprises. Kahl hasn't quite been able to get that elusive 7 foot barrier, but perhaps this is the day he does. The State record is 7-04 so that appears to be a bit out of reach.

OUTLOOK: Robb Quiller (pictured) , who's brother Rory broke the Armory Collegiate Record in the pole vault this year (Story here) is the favorite here after his 15-06 Section 9 record at the State Qualifier. It's too bad that Mt. Vernon's Brian McGovern is out with appendicitis. McGovern has a season best of 16-02 and could ahve pushed the state record if healthy. Ryan Pericozzi of Lancaster and Eric Van Aernam are both capabale of winning this event. Quiller was 8th last year at the state meet and all of the vaulters who beat him either graduated or are hurt (McGovern).

OUTLOOK: Albert Johnson has been getting better and better all season long. Johnson is the defending State Champ and it will take either a poor showing by him or a huge effort by someone else to dethrown him. Stewart, Delli Carpini, and McGill are all capable jumpers with a shot if Johnson falters.

OUTLOOK: Nine boys over 46-3 is very good depth so the battle for the medal stand will be a good one. But the real story here is Crouse vs. Johnson. Steve Crouse (pictured) leads the state with a 48-09.5 leap, aldo good for #6 in the US. Johnson leads the state in the long jump and is ranked 12th in the US in the triple jump. Wouldn't you just love to see a 49 footer, or dare we dream, a 50 footer? The top nine seeds are all seniors so a new champ will be crowned next year.

OUTLOOK: Gross has shown a great deal of improvement since last winter when he finished ninth at the state meet and had a season best throw of 52-11.75. Gross has been consistently over 56 feet this season and is largely unchallenged among public schools in New York State, though if Chiarello can put it together, he could win this thing. Jordy Paulemon of Brentwood is pictured above.
