Race Breakdown: The best matchups of the day, on both the team and the individual side, could be found in the CHSAA. Pat Tucker (St. Anthony's), John Rice (Xavier), and Conor Lundy (Fordham) all had big invitational wins to their names coming into the meet. They had all shown they were capable of going under 12:30 on a different layout than the Manhattan Invite at VCP. But just who would walk out the chute first was up for grabs. Pat Tucker started out relaxed, pulling his team through to the front of the pack. Then, he progressed alone, making his way out front. Down the final straightaway he kicked, across the line, winning the coveted intersectional title. Tucker also broke the meet record set in 1971 by Kevin McCarty, while Conor Lundy took home the junior class record as well. The top 3 finishers had been the meets fastest ever, in a competition that dates back to the 1910's. |

Team Championship Overview |

Breakdown: As tight as the individual race would be, the team title would be even harder. Xavier and Fordham were evenly matched, as demonstrated by the margins at McQuaid, while St. Anthony's was dominating out-of-state competition earlier in the year. With all respect given to both Xavier and Fordham, the fact that they were able to keep a score so close to St. Anthony's is testament to their talents in itself. However, St. Anthony's is the strongest they have ever been, better even than the year before, when they barely missed out on an NXN At-Large bid. This year, their squad is as good as, or better than most of the NYSPHSAA Class A teams that had taken state titles in the past ten years. It just so happens their success comes in a year when two NY All-Time Greatest Teams reside up in Section 3. St. Anthony's moves on to the Federation meet as the favorite, as well as an NXN-NY regional where the finishing order is anything but predetermined. Not a bad year for boys CHSAA XC, where all three teams have a possibilty of taking the top three slots at Feds. Not since St. Anthony's did it in 1992 has a catholic school won the Federation title, but the team that broke the meet record looks strong to contend. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
