2014 Season Overview for Class C
The invasion of the title-snatchers has come to Class C, with newly arrived Blue Devils, Warriors, and Witches all having variously possible chances of catching a runaway Bronco. The main newcomer is the long-time B power East Aurora, which brings along its 6 straight States titles won between 2005 and 2010 plus the 4th place at NXN Nationals two years ago. The reigning Class C champ over the last 6 years Bronxville will be trying to regroup after losing much of its veteran varsity squad and get set for what is likely to be one of the top showdowns at States this year. The list of top teams in Class C shows three in the top seven that were somewhere else last year. More stunningly, the list of top returning runners starts with 6 juniors, leaving it to Ardsley newcomer Selena Colon to represent the seniors as the sole member of her grade in the top 10. With only three seniors listed among the top 20, there are a lot of faces on the list that will be around for a while. Easr Aurora was augmented late last XC season towards the end of November by transfer Sophia Tasselmyer previously of Starpoint who finished 2nd to Jessica Lawson in the States B race, so the Blue Devils should have a potent squad that also features States medalist Fiona Danieu and top sophomore Maisy Webster. Bronxville returns States medalist Delia Hayes and usual frontrunner Kaitlin Ryan to a fairly depleted varsity lineup that also should include a very promising freshman Olivia Scotti. The heavily stocked Broncos may be a little deeper than the Blue Devils entering the season, but a lot of development of young talent will be cooking for both teams. There are a number of teams trying to get the pieces in place for a run at the two favorites. In Section 3 the Westhill Warriors have been reallocated to Class C and behind top runners Genny Corcoran, Annibal Coolican and newcomer Alaina Kenny will try to beat out reigning S3-C champ Skaneateles and States runner-up Kaitlyn Neal for a ride to States. Broadalbin-Perth, Akron, and Dobbs Ferry are all trying to step up to the next level, and Greenwich is back up in Class C and hoping to find some depth behind frontrunner Tori Spezio to renew its old clashes with Bronxville. Of the group of juniors topping the returning runners list for Class C, EA's Sophia Tasselmyer has by far the best credentials with a 2nd place finish to Jessica Lawson in the Class B race last year and a 21st place at NXN Nationals. Skaneateles's Kaitlyn Neal is also back after a States runner-up place, and three other runners who pushed above the 120 TR mark last year are EA's Fiona Danieu, Wayland-Cohocton's Meghan Curtis, and Westhill's Genny Corcoran. |

Section by Section Class C Overview
Section | Top Teams | Notes |
1 | Bronxville, Dobbs Ferry, Pawling, Briarcliff, Irvington | Bronxville still is well-stocked after big graduation losses, so it should be set for a run at its 13th States title. |
2 | Broadalbin-Perth, Schuylerville, Schalmont | S2-C champ Broadalbin-Perth has the entire crew back and look good for another title. |
3 | Westhill, Skaneateles, Hannibal, Jordan-Elbridge, Cazenovia, | New arrival Westhill and reigning S3-C champ Skaneateles should have a lively battle.. |
4 | Newark Valley, Trumansburg, Waverly | Newark Valley and Trumanburg appear to be pretty even entering the season. |
5 | Wayland-Cohocton, Livonia, Greece-Odyssey | Despite some losses, Wayland-Cohocton should likely stay ahead of a rising Livonia team. |
6 | Akron, Alden, Fredonia, Gowanda | Two rising squads in Akron and Alden should battle for the S6-C title. |
7 | Saranac, Saranac Lake | Saranac should win S7-C again. |
8 | Oyster Bay | With Friends Academy removed to Class A, options are few in S8-C. |
9 | James O'Neill, Tri-Valley, Sullivan West | Tri-Valley graduated most of last year's S9-C champ squad, so it could be James O'Neill's turn. |
10 | Canton, Gouverneur | Canton lost most of its squad to graduation so the contest with Gouverneur could be close this year. |
11 | Mattituck, Center Moriches | Mattituck has everyone back and should still have a big edge on Center Moriches. |

The move to Class C for the Blue Devils should put them in a head-to-head battle with Bronxville for the States title. EA has the power at top with the trio of Sophia Tasselmyer, Fiona Danieu, and Maisy Webster, and it now needs to fill in the back of the pack more for the push at States.

The Broncos have faced a few stiff challenges during their run of six straight States C titles, and sometimes have gotten by on top-level power and sometimes on sheer depth. Probably no challenge has been as strong as the one posed by East Aurora this year, and Bronxville will need a strong presence at the top from Delia Hayes, Kaitlyn Ryan and perhaps newcomer Olivia Scotti and also use potentially greater depth to overcome a smaller East Aurora squad.

Like its other S6-C five-letter counterpart that begins with an "A" and ends with an "n," Alden will be hard-hit by the arrival of East Aurora in its domain. Savannah Warner is back from States to lead a young and promising team that will need a lot more depth to compete well in their region.
