Top Teams |
Notes |
1 |
Suffern, Arlington, Clarkstown South, John Jay-East Fishkill, Fox Lane |
Suffern has a comfortable margin for a repeat S1-A title, and five teams are bunched together for the second spot. |
2 |
Saratoga, Shenendehowa, Shaker, Guilderland, Colonie, Bethlehem, Niskayuna |
Saratoga has a small edge over the pack of pursuers in the ferociously tough 2-A and the Blue Streaks always seem to get the needed legs, but with 5 teams with 100+ TRs right on their heels, this race should be very very interesting. |
3 |
Fayetteville-Manlius, Liverpool, Cicero-North Syracuse, West Genesee, Baldwinsville |
The national champion FM team will actually get a strong challenge from a Liverpool team that is moving on up, and CNS, West Genny, and B-ville should all be in the top 20 in the state rankings. |
4 |
Elmira District, Corning, Ithaca, Horseheads |
Elmira is a repeating favorite, but Corning, Ithaca, and Horseheads are keeping tabs. |
5 |
Penfield, Rush-Henrietta, Hilton, Fairport, Canandaigua, Webster Schroeder |
The wars in S5-A are always among the best, and Penfield and Rush-Henrietta should get together for a good scrap this year. |
6 |
Clarence, Lockport, Frontier |
Clarence should be locked in for another year in 6-A as there is no team close to it. |
7 |
No representatives |
|
8 |
Syosset, Massapequa, Port Washington |
Syosset looks very strong to repeat last year's visit to States. |
9 |
Warwick Valley, Valley Central, Monroe-Woodbury, Pine Bush |
Warwick Valley is developing a strong young contingent and should be the class of S9-A. |
10 |
No representatives |
|
11 |
Northport, Sachem East, Sachem North, Ward-Melville, Smithtown, Kings Park, Bay Shore |
Northport has the edge, but there are a lot of teams close behind that will be contending for the S11-A title. |
|

|
|
Fayetteville-Manlius runners running to a States A title in 2012 include Alana Pearl on left, Annika Avery, Mary Barger, and Jillian Fanning in middle, and Jenna Farrell on right. |

This Year's Outlook |
The quest for number 8 at States and Nationals has a few more question marks than usual after big graduation losses and the transfer of Mary Barger. The top trio of Annika Avery, Alana Pearl, and Jenna Farrell have a big store of experience, and with a little more experience and a move upward by Jessica Howe, a group of younger legs, and a surprise here or there, the Hornets are expected to hold off the competition and follow an old familiar road west. |

This Year's Outlook |
The pieces may be falling into place for a Penfield team that had a few less key losses to graduation than Rush-Henrietta and that has senior Footlocker finalist Katie Lembo leading a Patriots squad that is seeking its first States visit in 12 years. With Trista Leo and Sarah Cok back and Megan Sedita and Tory Fahrenholz working off of promising freshman campaigns, the omens look good. |

After losing its top 3 from last year to either graduation or transfer, the Blue Streaks enter the 2013 season on a little lower altitude than normal. Still, with a good base of 100+ runners behind top runners Sarah Morin and Spencer Hayes and what looks to be some fast young feet coming up, Saratoga should be in the usual hunt near the top of NY. |

This Year's Outlook |
On the good side, Northport has most of its top cast back, including an experienced States visiter, senior Brigid Brennan, and the team also has decent balance and depth. But there are also a lot of teams riding on the Tigers' tail in S11-A, so returning to States for the fourth time in five years will be a challenge. |

Warwick Valley has a sizeable edge in the battle to retain its S9-A title, and frontrunner Megan Reilly is coming off a spectacular rookie season that included a States championship and a run at Footlocker Nationals. Fellow sophomore Agnes Eigo and senior Darby Ginley provide good help in the 2-3 positions, and the Wildcats should be up among the top 10 teams in Class A. |

With a lot of seniors on the Flaming Arrows (East), this could be the team's best opportunity in a long time to break a 15-year States drought. |

Running in that tough S2-A group, the Raiders need a lot of younger runners to get to contend for a States berth. One of the young runners is Bellame Bower who had an impressive run at Elma Meadows, and the team has the depth to be very good if Kirsten Kaminski and Shannen Kerin can elevate to the next level. |
