This is a hard one to project since it is so tied up with mid and long distance efforts from some special runners. In the LL race, Aidan Puffer pulled Manchester back even with Hall but ultimately was passed by Tobias Ruffo. Conard ran away from everyone in the L race behind Gavin and Callum Sherry. Bristol Central was the champ in 2020, and the MR of 7:59.84 was set by Suffield in 2019.

Top seed Xavier is only CT #4 on the year off of its Class L win, but some faster times were run on faster tracks, and who knows what resources each team will put into their SMR squad, which can make the difference between winning and losing an Open title. Greenwich, Wilbur Cross, and Bristol Central are all big contenders here. Class S Haddam-Killingworth was the surprise 2020 winner with Matthew Jennings on the anchor, and Hall's 2019 team with Miller Anderson on the anchor holds the MR of 3:34.06.
