Ocean Breeze Freedom Games Preview Blowout

Girls Sprints

55HH

Junior Nadia Saunders (North Rockland) heads the field with her NY #3 performance of 8.46.  The closest competition outside her own teammates comes from Meredith Updike (Cinnaminson) with her NJ #14 of 8.75.

55m

Sydney Hawkins (Phillipsburg) is currently NJ #2 with her 7.14, and looks to run to the front of field here.  Brianna Davis (Brentwood) is looking to make chase with her 7.36 from the Armory HOF Invite.

300m

It's a rematch from last year, and the stakes have been raised.  In 2018, Hannah Waller (South Lakes, VA) ran to a dominating 38.74 over Talitha Diggs (Saucon Valley, PA) at 40.27.  Since then, Diggs has taken a major step forward, putting her best at 39.29.  Waller is opening her season over the longer distance (she's run 7.10 in the 55m), and this could be closer than a year before.  Sydney Hawkins also comes in at 40.85, and could make the race competitive out front.

600m

This race is sure to set the tone for the Freedom Games.  Three completely different backgrounds meeting in the middle.  The obvious favorite here is Katelyn Tuohy (North Rockland) who hasn't lost a distance race since February of last year.  However, at Counties of Indoor 2018, Tuohy was also entered in the 600m.  She would run to a best of 1:37.48, but would settle for 2nd.  The field on Saturday will see two athletes capable of challenging that mark.  While Tuohy may be more XC, Sarah Trainor (FDR) has found a home in those middle distances of the 800m and 1000m.  Currently the Soph State Record holder in the Steeple Outdoors, Trainor has run 1:35.98 this season, the fastest seed in the field.  Could she be the favorite?  And what about Deanna Martin (Valley Stream South), who is having a breakout senior so far, picking up wins at the North Shore  Invite and Bishop Loughlin Games, nabbing a 600m PR of 1:36.40.  Could she too close the gap on the lead?  This will be a race to watch.
