New York Has A Record Breaking Weekend At New Balance Nationals

Girls State Records

It's another National Record for Lauren Harris (Sachem East), who lowers her own best in the Mile Racewalk, winning in 6:53.44.  She's joined on the podium by Amelia Cuomo and Ariana Cagnina, making Top 6.

She may have gotten outkicked in the final 50m by Jess Lawson (Corning), who went NY #3 All-Time, but it was Kelsey Chmiel (Saratoga) who would come away with the Sophomore National Record.  Her time of 10:12.39, NY #4 AT, was just 0.01 under the previous record set by CT star Hannah Delbalsi.

What a final throw for Jillian Shippee (Shenendehowa) as she improves on the State Record she already set in the prelims.  Her 65-6 is now US #4 All-Time in the event, after her win at NBNI.

She came in ranked US #2 in the 55m, and pushed out that margin to 60m.  Halle Hazzard (St. Anthony's) takes the silver in the 60m final, tying the 55m Senior State Record at 6.84, while breaking the outright Senior State Record at 60m in 7.36.

The season never stops.  After winning at USATF Hershey Youth Indoors the night before, Erica Ellis (Gates-Chili) comes to NBNI and raises her own Sophomore State Record by placing third at 13-2.25.

The 4xMile was loaded with talent from New York.  Champions Shoreham-Wading River won the event in 20:33.12, NY #11 All-Time.  Also medaling was Ursuline (3rd), Corning (4th), and Syosset (6th).  Jess Lawson of Corning had the fastest split of the day with her 4:49.66.
