Has 2017 Trumped 2016? A Comparative Look At The State Rankings

Boys Events

What Event was big in 2016? It would seem the 55m was a loaded event the year before, which is an interesting turn of events.  Mike Miller (Christopher Columbus) has run faster this year, than anyone did last year, by about .08 seconds.  That's quite a lot in the short sprints, with our NY #2 this year also under the State Leading mark from the year before.  But it was the depth that did it, as 14 athletes went under 6.5 FAT last year.

What Event is big in 2017? The pole vault is back on the rise again.  We had a solid five year stretch with athletes consistently over 16-feet plus, and then there was a lull.  Well, in 2017, athletes are finding their way back over the bar, with at least two guys as underclassmen hitting 14-9 or above.  Could we see the return of a 16-footer?

What's the best potential event at States? That 300m is slowly becoming very competitive.  With the change of venue, you'll have Kyree Johnson (Huntington) and Ramone Newland (South Shore) battling at the top, but there are plenty of guys right there to challenge, most all being Carlon Hosten (Taft), who is now NY #2.  Rai Benjamin's incredible State Meet record from Cornell may very well go down in 2017.
