2016 New York Federation Championships Preview

Boys Team Race

Breakdown: This one could be the most interesting race of the day.  Despite not being able to make it out of Section 4, Ithaca came back with the highest ratings of the season for their four individual qualifiers.  Added to their 5th man's mark from Sectionals, that makes them a serious title threat at Feds, and could prove to be a tipping point at NXN-NY.  But you have three State Champions on their tail, and the margin so thin, anything can happen.  Watkins Glen posted the smallest point total of the weekend in their Class C win, and against tougher competition, it could propel their marks even further.  Warwick Valley took second in that Class A race, and finished the highest on the State Meet Merge.  Burnt Hills won the Class B race, with a larger compression than we've seen in the past.  If they can take a step forwards, more similar to their mid-season marks, they could very well take the win.

Rounding out the field is Xavier, the second place team at last year's Federation Championships.  The CHSAA has never won three Fed Meet Titles in a row, and with the past two championships being St. Anthony's, this could be record breaking.  Xavier would need a step up from their performance at Intersectionals, but that is not out of the question.  Like Burnt Hills, they looked very good in the mid-season, and a simple repeat puts them back in the conversation.

With all five of these teams in the mix, it's going to come down to every last position to determine a winner.
