Section: 7 | Class: D | Colors: Blue and gold
Lake Placid's Henry McGrew picked up a 12th place medal at States to help the Bombers take the championship..
XC History | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
States Teams: 2014 (D-5th), 2015 (D-1st)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Pat Stewart (2007, D-5th), Karl Schulz (2015, D-6th)
Last Year's Summary: 1st in States D, 1st in Sectionals D
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
One year after making its first ever appearance at States, Lake Placid won the championship in 2015 with a squad that had just enough of a core group to take a comfortable victory. Now with the loss of two members of the champion unit including frontrunner Karl Schulz, the Bombers will be looking to pull in some new talent to fill some holes. Henry McGrew and Scott Schulz are returning at the front and Trent White in the middle, and freshman James Flanigan is likely to see some big development, so with the addition of one strong runner, Lake Placid could well be back at the top of the rankings.

Last Year's Summary: 2nd in States D, 1st in Sectionals D
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Red Dragons won their first sectional title in 46 years and finished 2nd at States in 2015, but then lost their top 3 including States medalists Ryan Hetrick and Frank Zuroski. A lot of rebuilding will be needed to beat out a fairly intact Barker in S5-D again, but senior Shane Hetrick is back to lead Maple Grove, and sophomore Frank Colburn could enjoy a big jump this year.

Last Year's Summary: 3rd in Sectionals D
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Beavers have piled up 15 state championships over the years but haven't won one since way way back in 2014, which must be making their famously crazy fans even crazier. After finishing third in sectionals behind Sauquoit Valley and Tully last year, Beaver River has its top three of Connor Demo, Eric Campeau, and Matt Moser back but most of the rest of the varsity is gone. With a young developing squad that could make some noise in the next two years, the Beavers will need to get some depth at the back.

States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Gary Both (1960, C-9th), Scott Buchanan (1974, C-10th), Theo Henderson (2015, D-9th)
Last Year's Summary: 5th in States D, 1st in Sectionals D
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Blue Devils had their strongest finish ever at States as senior frontrunner Theo Henderson placed 9th and led the team to 5th. Despite struggling at States, Nick Farrell is back as still only a junior to lead the 2016 Haldane group in an effort to keep moving up at States. Sophomore Adam Silhavy had an impressive year in 2015 and should team with Farrell to again give the Blue Devils a solid 1-2 punch at the top.

States Individuals (Top 10 finishers):
Last Year's Summary: 7th in States D, 1st in Sectionals D

This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Shelter Island won its first sectional title last year and is now looking to keep moving up from a strong 7th place at States. Freshman Kal Lewis just missed a medal at States last year, and with a little more depth behind him, the Indians will be making some more in-roads this year.

States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Mike Kinsley (1983, C-6th), Eugene Peterson (2002, D-10th) (2003, D-9th), Kevin Grazioplene (2008, D-8th)
Last Year's Summary: 2nd in Sectionals D
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
With Addison moved to Class C, Oakfield-Alabama has a good chance to seize control of the section after a 2nd place finish last year. Five of the top 6 from last year's varsity are back, headed by Josh Larmon and Cole O'Donnell, which should keep the Hornets buzzing in S5-D
