The Great State Meet Preview: Indoor 2016

Girls 300m

Event Info: 2015 Winner: Arianne Strunkey (Taft) 39.26, State Record: 37.54, Meet Record: 38.23, State Qualifier Mark (FAT): 41.94

State of the Action: On paper, it would seem Amanda Crawford is the clear favorite coming into the race.  She has a full second personal best against the rest of the field, and has been running consistent all season.  But Crawford is getting ambitious at the State Meet.  Unless they attempt to make finals with alternates, Crawford will have the trials of the 300m, 4x400m, and 4x200m all before she steps on the line for her 300m final.  That kind of wear and tear can open up a hole for someone to sneak through, especially on a notoriously slow track for sprinters.

That's where the field comes in.  Mary Chimezie has some impressive major wins under her belt, and Camile Cameron won't have the 4x200m to worry about at the State Meet.  Both are close enough to last year's winning time to make a difference.  Niasia Harding performed well at Easterns, and is also under 40secs for the sprint.
