“The Biggest and Oldest Track & Field Meet in the Country,” the Bishop Loughlin Games announces venue change.

Ed Bowes, meet director emeritus of the 62nd Annual Bishop Loughlin Games, announced today that the meet which is known as the biggest and most well-known indoor high school track & field meet in the country will kick off the 2015 - 2016 high school season at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, in Staten Island, New York. The meet is still slated to take place on the third weekend of December.

“I believe this track will produce some outstanding performances to open up the indoor season. The athletes and teams that compete at the Bishop Loughlin Games deserve the very best and I believe this hydraulic track will be one of the fastest in the country. We are very excited to have our meet here, said Ed.”

“We are very excited to bring one of the most prestigious meets in the country to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, with the sweeping wide turns and the hydraulic banked system we guarantee fast times”, said Lauren Primerano, Park Administrator. The meet includes over 5,000 athletes from seven states and over 200 high schools. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, December 19th. About The Bishop Loughlin Games

Established in 1954 by Brother George Synan FSC, the Games makes claim to being the largest and oldest high school indoor track & field meet in the world. Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School is located in Brooklyn, New York. Its heritage goes back to 1851. It was named after John Loughlin, the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Brooklyn. In 1973, the school became co-educational and is presently the only diocesan high school in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Bishop Loughlin has been awarded the Blue Ribbon for Excellence by the US Department of Education.

About Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex

The $93 million Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex was funded by the New York City PlaNYC initiative, with construction managed in coordination with the New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC). Once open to the public in 2015, the facility will become a premier destination for athletic events, drawing competitors from around the region. The elite-level hydraulically-banked competition track will be able to be converted from eight to six lanes, can incline up to 4.5 feet, and will have commanding views of the nearby Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and even the Freedom Tower in lower Manhattan. The facility will be complete with state of the art field event areas, timing systems, and a warm-up area that will feature fitness and cardio rooms and a covered parking lot will accommodate 160 cars. Additional free parking for cars and buses is located across from the facility on Father Capadonno Boulevard.
