Millrose Trials Allows Relays, Ritz To Run Free

Boys Recap

Boys 55m

State of the Action: The first time Zach Warden had won a 55m dash, with a 6.46 showing at the Bishop Loughlin Games, he was shocked. After Wednesday's Millrose Trials race, and the relay time preceding it on Saturday, he shouldn't be shocked anymore. Warden came away with the win, against a stellar field of New Yorkers. Anton Porter (Mount Saint Micheal) clocked a fast time to get him a seed, while late entrant Rai Benjamin (Mount Vernon) showed he is strong at any sprint distance.

Boys Mile

State of the Action: Sam Ritz (Germantown Academy) learned from the Hispanic Games. Go out too fast, and it'll be hard to maintain. The pace went out dreadfully slow, somewhere around 67secs for the first quarter. Without speeding up much through the next 400m, Pat Tucker of Saint Anthony's began to get antsy. He threw down a 57 third quarter mile, breaking open the field. Race favorite Luke Gavigan (Tappan Zee) and Ritz responded, with Ritz keeping pace best with Tucker. Seeing that it was no longer time to sit, Ritz proved why he is the nations top over 800m and 1000m, closing with conviction, to win in 4:16.69, perfect redemption for the Hispanic Games.

Boys Weight Throw

State of the Action: With the addition to the State Meet lineup, it was inevitable that the All-Time lists would soon look very different. Eric Sheng (Syosset), who ended his junior career as #25 All-Time, threw for a big personal best, winning the meet, and moving up to #11 All-Time. He will put up a fight against Warwick's Nate Sander, who is currently NY #1.

CHSAA Boys 4x200m
State of the Action: Christ the King traveled to Boston in the tail end of 2014, where they would run a 1:32.57 in the 4x200m. It would be their fastest mark by far of the season, and indicative of strong potential when applied to a banked track. That potential was realized, running alone in an unseeded heat, as they won overall in a NY #4, US #5 performance of 1:30.04. Holy Trinity, able to get the stick around, came in second, winning what was allegedly the fastest heat. These teams will see eachother many times this season, and will look to push under 1:30.

Boys 4x400m

State of the Action: Boys and Girls finally got the race they were looking for, after their Hispanic Games baton mishap. Led by a 47.9sec opener by Richard Rose, Boys and Girls ran to a US #2. As expected, their biggest competitor came from Westchester, as they were almost caught by Mount Vernon, aided by the fastest split of the night in Rai Benjamin's 47.8second leg. Clara Barton ran well as well, now at US #4.

State of the Action: A storied tradition at the Millrose Games, the CHSAA 4x800m lived up to it's potential.
