Mary Wittenberg has written a very thoughtful article for “The Inside Track” in advance of the Adidas Grand Prix, June 12th at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island.  This meet, developed by Global Athletics, will arguably be the best professional meet held in New York City in many years.  The addition of great high school events makes it even better.

Some of the best the State has seen.  This year he was the Ohio State Indoor champion at 1600 meters with a national best time of 4:09.53 and he has the fastest 1600 in this years outdoor campaign, leading up to this Saturdays State Championships, with a time of 4:11.99.  He has personal bests of:

The state championships, any championship competition,is supposed to be a who’s who in the sport. But because the Adidas Grand Prix lands on the same weekend at the New York State championships, part of the discussion will be who’s absent.

Garden City, Fayetteville-Manlius, and Saratoga Springs stage epic 4x800m battle: 8:49.88  -8:50.54  - 8:50.70  

Shelby Hayes finished in second place just minutes ago at the Jim Ryun Dream Mile in New York. Hayes went into the absolutely stacked field not considered one of the favorites. She shaved ~8 seconds off of her previous best to run an unofficial 4:43 for the full mile [her previous best 1600m time was 4:50.54]. That time is a new state record over legends such as Jenny Barringer, Jackie Areson, Betty Jo Springs, and Robin Campbell. Results, photos, videos, etc. now posted.
