Hayes, Cox, Men's and Women's 4x400 Relays Win BIG EAST Indoor Championships Feb 21, 2010

NEW YORK - Senior Jernail Hayes (Newark, Del.) and junior Christopher Cox (Manahawkin, N.J.) along with the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay squads each earned BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Sunday afternoon. Hayes won the 500-meter dash for the third straight year, clocking in at 1:11.61, and winning the race by .81 seconds. Junior KeAira Dickerson (Wilmington, Del.) ran a 1:14.11 to take eighth place. Cox traded in his 500-meter championship with the 400-meter dash crown after cruising to a 47.47 in the finals. Sean Morris picked up eighth place with a 49.89. Hayes earned third place in the 200-meter dash, hitting an NCAA provisional time of 23.89. The women's 4x400-meter relay of Toneisha Friday (Somerset, N.J.), Nijgia Snapp (Mays Landing, N.J.), Dickerson, and Krista Simkins (Wissahicken, Pa.) won another title, speeding to a time of 3:41.22. The Marquette University men's and women's track and field squads finished competition Sunday afternoon at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships at The Armory. As a team, the men finished 12th with 4.50 points, while the women earned 9.50 points to finish 15th.
