Big East Conference Championships 2010

Mary Cate Quiett became DePaul's first female track athlete to become a BIG EAST Conference Champion after winning the 800m on the final day of the league's indoor championship. In addition, Tim Nedow picked up All-BIG EAST honors after claiming a third place finish in the shot put.

Johnathan Shawel of Notre Dame looked gassed, like someone ad threw quick-dry cement in his path and Villanova’s Carl MacKenzie fought like mad to get around. Then just when it seemed Shawel might walk to the finish he accelerated again and MacKenzie hit the wall.

The first time Villanova’s Sheila Reid crossed the finish line she smiled wide after she crushed the last 200 meters, leaving the field in her wake on her way to winning the 1,000 meters at the Big East Championships.

NEW YORK - Senior Jernail Hayes (Newark, Del.) and junior Christopher Cox (Manahawkin, N.J.) along with the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay squads each earned BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Sunday afternoon. Hayes won the 500-meter dash for the third straight year, clocking in at 1:11.61, and winning the race by .81 seconds. Junior KeAira Dickerson (Wilmington, Del.) ran a 1:14.11 to take eighth place. Cox traded in his 500-meter championship with the 400-meter dash crown after cruising to a 47.47 in the finals. Sean Morris picked up eighth place with a 49.89. Hayes earned third place in the 200-meter dash, hitting an NCAA provisional time of 23.89. Chris Kinney and Kenny Mitchell walk away from the two-day BIG EAST Championship as individual champions in the 60-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, respectively. Today marked the final day of competition at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory with the Hoya men finishing second overall with 104 points and the Hoya women placing fifth with 67 points.

The Marquette University men's and women's track and field squads finished competition Sunday afternoon at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships at The Armory. As a team, the men finished 12th with 4.50 points, while the women earned 9.50 points to finish 15th.

The University of Cincinnati women's indoor track and field team scored points in four events on the final day of the 2010 BIG EAST Championships, led by seven points from sophomore Jenna Heaton and six points from sophomore Aricka Rhodes, as Cincinnati finished the meet in ninth place with 35 points.

Marie Louise Asselin sprawled herself on the track a few meters from the finish line and reached her hand out to West Virginia teammate Clara Grandt for an exhausted low-five. They both got NCAA automatic qualifier they were looking for and owed each other a bit of thanks as well.
