By Christopher HuntNew Rochelle’s Elizabeth Mott tried to take her coach’s advice before the 400 meters. He wanted to tell her how to ignore the pain that awaited in the last 75 meters, how to keep her elbows from jutting out and keeping her shoulders from creeping toward her ears.“Just imagine yourself laying on a beach in a hammock somewhere, looking at palm trees,” coach Andy Capellan told her.FULL ARTICLE HERE

Nick Vena (NJ): National Frosh. Indoor Shot Put Record Holder(Photo by the Star-Ledger) National Freshman Shot Put record holder Nick Vena (Morristown, NJ) continued his incredible indoor season Monday night at the NJ Varsity Classic, this time throwing 63-02.75 to better his record by over a foot. Vena's mark also ranks him at the U.S. #1 spot, besting Dan Kwiatkowski's (PA) mark of 63-00 set on January 25.
Morristown’s Nick Vena isn’t much for words. He’s pretty stoic for a 14-year phenom shot-putter who is getting more attention every time in steps into a throwing circle. But Vena is amazing. Not just because he is a freshman that stands 6-4, 260 pounds or the fact that he is as nimble as a figure-skater. It’s because he gets better every week, even though he’s so much better than everyone else. Vena broke the freshman national shot put record again today at the NJ Varsity Classic, tossing 63 feet, 2 3/4 inches, the top performance in the country this season.FULL ARTICLE HERE
