Kate Murphy of Lake Braddock won the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games 3K in 9:14.02 to set a new national senior class record in the event. Melody Fairchild set the previous class record of 9:17.4 in 1991. The only prep in U.S. history to clock a faster indoor 3K time is Mary Cain, whose national high school record stands at 9:04.51. Saturday morning at the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games in Staten Island, NY, Lake Braddock Secondary's Kate Murphy broke the national senior record. She achieved this feat by clocking a US #1 9:14.12 time in the 3K at the Ocean Breeze facility. She went thru the opening mile in 4:59.
