Senior Christina Melian of Susan Wager High School on Staten Island has been one of the most consistent performers in the PSAL over her career. Melian finished in second to Cardozo's Alexis Panisse in 19:44.24 at the PSAL Cross-Country team championships Saturday to cap a strong cross-country career.

"Cross-Country is definitely a test of strength," said Melian. "The hills and the weather. Not everybody can do it."

Melian will make her fourth appearance at the state Federation championships tomorrow, and looks forward to a college running career beyond this season.

New York City cross-country notebook: Read about the inspiring return of Xavier's Dmitri Zuccarello, who overcame injury to lead his team back to Feds. Also, read about the dominance of Curtis's girls in the PSAL, and an historic run by Cardozo's Alexis Panisse last weekend at the PSAL Championships.

"After a topsy-turvy cross-country season in which senior leader Dmitri Zuccarello went down with a freak injury, Xavier showed its might, and its growth, Saturday when it qualified for the state Federation championship for the first time since 2007."
