This list was created by three motivated and engaged high school students, and is solely their property, opinions, and decisions expressed. Speed Ratings were obtained from TullyRunners. Also, feel free to tag your name if you see yourself listed.
It all started when our coach, Steve Arnett, decided to run our JV team in place of our varsity at the county meet. Curious about our competition and how we would fare against the other teams, one of us, Tim Burger, decided to create a virtual meet, using only PR’s from Bowdoin Park. Once we ran at counties, and placed second, we became even more curious as to how our JV team would rank among other JV teams around the state. So, we took on the herculean task of compiling a list of the top JV teams in the state, researching their top 5-7 JV guys, ranking them in order by speed rating. Though speed ratings are not one hundred percent accurate, it was the best way we could rank runners, because certain teams from different parts of the state run on a variety of courses ranging greatly in difficulty. With the three of us in on it together, we researched a few different meets for each team, hoping to find every kids highest speed rating. After putting every runner in order, we revised it over and over. For example, in a regular meet, only 5 kids score, while numbers 6 and 7 get a time and place, but have no outcome in scoring (unless of course the results come down to a tie breaker). We made sure that only 5 kids would earn points towards their team, while also skipping over numbers 6 and 7. Once we had finished this rough compilation, we waited for teams to race again. Following each race, updates were made to runner’s speed rating after new pr’s. After completing the final updates, the NYS JV boys rankings were ready to be finalized. What we have presented here is a compilation of work completed by myself, Tim Burger, and my two teammates Eddie Merenda and James Freiler.
