North Shore’s Brianna Nerud advanced to the final in the 2,000 steeplechase Friday morning at the World Youth Championships in Lille, France.
The senior to-be placed sixth in Heat 1, to qualify in 6:38.80. Madeleine Myers of The Northwest School (Wash.), who set the national record at the World Youth Trials, qualified as well, finishing second in Heat 2 in 6:34.80.
Norah Jeruto Tanui of Kenya, posted 6:20.67 in the first heat, a world youth leader headed into Sunday’s final.
Averill Park's Rudy Winkler also advanced to the final by placing 5th in his flight with a toss of 69.09m, which is approximately 226-08. The final will be held today at 12:30pm eastern.
