Lateisha Philson lowered her own New York State class record and placed third in the 100 hurdles at the World Youth Trials Wednesday.


The star hurdler from Cardozo in Queens, earned the bronze medal in 13.69.


Philson carried a cautious racing schedule this season while she dealt with nagging pain in her hamstring. She underwent an MRI last week and the results were negative. The test gave Philson all the assurance she needed that she could push her limits in the race.


“I went in confident about my race,” Philson said in a phone interview. “I knew that I was fine and that everything was ok so I just went hard.”


Trinity Wilson, a junior at St. Mary’s in California, won in 13.42. Kendell Williams, the national heptathlon champ, was second in 13.52.


Philson first broke the state junior class record Tuesday when she clocked 13.83 in the prelims to finish second in her section. The time ...
