NEW YORK – Lateisha Philson just finished her fourth race in about an hour and could barely keep her eyes open when Cardozo coach Gail Emmanuel rushed over.
“You’re such a trooper,” she told Philson.
The Judges star junior hurdler doesn’t look good when she walks. Philson limps. She takes her time climbing stairs and said that sometimes she even takes the elevator at school. But she looked great running.
Philson won the 100-meter hurdles in a state-leading time of 14.12 seconds and finished third in the 100 dash in 12.11 to lead Cardozo to its fourth straight PSAL championship Saturday at Ichan Stadium with 108 points. Medgar Evers finished second with 87 points and Clinton third with 73.
“This team is all about championships,” Emmanuel said. “They’re all about guts. Lateisha is a perfect example.”
