AUBLE SETS SECTION 5 MARK: Warsaw freshman Karmen Auble set the new Section 5 girls record in the pole vault with a leap of 12 feet, 3 1/2 inches at the Livingston Conference meet Friday at Caledonia-Mumford.

That broke the old mark of 12-3 set in 2004 by Jennifer O’Neil of Fairport.

Auble entered the competition at 10-10 and made it on her first attempt to essentially win the competition. She then moved the bar to 11-6 for a new season’s best, which she also made on her first attempt. She then moved it to 12-0 and also made it on her first try.

She then moved the bar to 12-3 1/2, had to take a short delay to measure and have officials come over to certify the height.

On her third attempt she made it for the new record.

“They had announced over the loudspeaker that she was attempting a Section 5 record, so as I’m hugging her to celebrate, we turn and every set of eyes in that stadium are turned in our direction cheering — really quite an experience for a 14-year-old,” said Mike Auble, Karmen’s father.
