NEW YORK – We’ve all had days when we woke up in the morning and decided, even before we tore the covers off, that today would not be fun.


Eddie Owens had one of those days. The dark clouds didn’t help. Or the fact that he raced on Friday and had more homework than he cared to think about.


“I just woke up this morning feeling like trash after the race yesterday,” said the Packer Collegiate senior. “I kept doubting myself. I had a pretty negative attitude. I’m not gonna lie.”


He wanted to run. Running fast became more of an afterthought. Until the race started. A couple laps in, Owens realized he had something going. Suddenly, he was eyeing the clock and chasing a facility record in the 3,000 steeplechase at the New York Relays Saturday at Ichan Stadium.
