NEW YORK – Nyanka Moise-Joseph knew her job when she looked across from her and saw Cardozo’s Chamique Francis next to her on the starting line.

It meant that Cardozo had put its top gun out front hoping to put Medgar Evers in an early hole. Moise-Joseph knew it and she knew her job was to stop it. And that’s what she did.

Moise-Joseph kept Francis off her shoulder for nearly the entirely leadoff leg, squashed Cardozo’s hopes of building an early lead and set the stage for Medgar Evers to upset the defending national championships at the Millrose Games Friday night in the PSAL girls 4x400 in 3:53.80.

“Chamique is someone you have to hold in reserve,” said Medgar Evers coach Shaun Dietz. “That was the biggest mistake they made.”
