Najee Glass stood around just as stunned as anyone else when he heard the words “national record.”
“It means a lot,” the St. Peter’s Prep junior said. “I didn’t think I was going to break any national record.”

But Glass won the invitational 500 meters at the New Balance Games Saturday at the Armory in 1:02.22. He topped a mark by Mike Greene of Boston College High set in 1984. Glass came to the New Balance Games for a fast race at an odd distance against a stacked field. And Strymar Livingston gave him all he could handle. Livingston rocketed off the starting line and ripped through the 400 mark around 48 seconds flat.
