The first installment of the Armory’s Athletes of the Week, sponsored by AT&T, features record-breakers Jordan Yamoah of Arlington and Tatnall’s Haley Pierce.
Yamoah, a senior, twice broke the New York State record in the pole vault. First he vaulted 16 feet, 6 inches in his season debut, at the Section 1 Kickoff 1 Friday. Then on Sunday, he returned to the New Balance Track and Field Center for the Section 1 Kickoff 2 and cleared 17-0, coming the first high school boy in New York State history to top a 17-foot bar indoors or outdoors. He just missed his attempts at 17-3.
Yamoah now holds the indoor and outdoor state pole vault records, after clearing 16-6 while winning the outdoor state meet last spring, where he competed with a torn meniscus in his left knee.
