WAPPINGERS FALLS – West Windsor-Plainsboro North senior Jim Rosa and Edward Cheserek of St. Benedict’s Prep led the boys race throughout. That much was expected.

Cheserek handled the pace for most of the race and Rosa attached himself to Cheserek’s shoulder. It all looked scripted. Even the part when Rosa started to break away with a half mile left at the Nike Cross Northeast Regional championships. But  no one predicted that Rosa would floor it the way he did and almost instantly tear open a 12-second gap on his way to breaking the course record at Bowdoin Park and winning the individual title in 15:35.5 Saturday.

Rosa erased a 10-year course record set by St. Anthony’s Charles Millioen of 15:39.7 in 2000. Cheserek, who was on Rosa’s heels with 800 left, finished second in 1...
