They talked about what they did differently. This year Stony Brook coach Andy Ronan didn’t waste any time having his women’s team toiling at smaller meets against lesser competition. They stepped right into the fray against the big guns and had their best season ever.

The Stony Brook women, who finished seventh Monday at NCAA championships in Terre Haute, Ind., took on the schedule of a team that expected to end the season at nationals. So the Seawolves opened their season at the Notre Dame Invitational then the Pre-NCAA meet before winning their fourth straight America East championship. Their finish Monday was the best in school history.
