SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Saratoga Springs program has a reputation for its structure. There’s an aura about the girls team, always one of the best in the country, which denotes seriousness.

Saratoga is very much still the well-oiled machine that people are used to but there was something different about this season.

“We’re just trying to have fun this season,” a smiling coach Linda Kranick said.

It’s always fun to win the Section 2 Class AA title with 20 points is always. Especially when Saratoga took the second through seventh spots with Keelin Hollowood leading the way in 17:28. But Kranick was most pleased with eighth grader Estel Smith, who broke into the top five. Smith’s older sister Madalyne was one of the best scholastic hurdlers in the country last year for Saratoga.
