NY Girls Individuals

After a season of glancing blows, we'll finally get the top two athletes in the State in the same race. Unfortunately, the third pillar of that trio, Manhattan Champ Maeve Going, caught an injury deep into the season, but both Course Record Holders from Queensbury are ready to go head-to-head. Sloan Wasserman opened up the State Championships with a Course Record in Class B, breaking the Record Leyla Bhusri set twice earlier in the Season. Bhusri nearly matched that former Record in her Class A win. Both led their respective teams to victory as well.
Behind them, there is still deep competition. Maddie Laezza is chief among them, as she was only four seconds off Bhusri's winning time, and nine seconds off Wasserman head-to-head. That experience will come in handy at Bowdoin, a Course that more resembles her home course of Sunken Meadow. Tsadia Bercuvitz has been working her way back to the front of the field all season long, and that has been pointed towards this race all year. Addison Vellekoop has had two consecutive weekends of big marks over big competition, and the wave looks to continue.
Other returning 2024 Qualifiers: Girls can be much more variable year over year, and even race-to-race. Sophia Chromczak, Kyleen Brady, Lexie Cole, and Naomi Douglas all made NXN the year before, and are back to race again. Any and all of them are capable of making it back.
