Easterns States Preview: The Champions Are Back To Defend

Boys Eastern State Championships

Race Time: 2:44pm | 5-Man Average Record for VCP - 12:32.76 (FM in 2014)

Breakdown: Once again, the Boys' Eastern State Championships will have national implications, as there are three nationally ranked athletes, and the US-2 ranked team. Christian Brothers out of New Jersey are the headlining act, as they are coming off a record-breaking run at the legendary Bowdoin Park, taking down the decade-long 5-Man Average Record. In 2023, they were one of the top teams in the country, and proved that at Manhattan, taking a crack at the 5-Man average at VCP in their rout of the field. They came up twelve seconds short, but are right back at it in 2024. Haddonfield of NJ took second to CBA at Bowdoin earlier this year, but will be playing 'best of the rest' if things go according to plan.
Individually, it's going to be a battle. CBA is led by Joe Barrett, who ran the third fastest time at Bowdoin ever, to aid in their pursuit of the 5-Man Average Record. That bodes well for a potential sub-12 performance at Vanny, of which there have only been three. But he will find a challenger in Tamrat Gavenas, the top returner from Foot Locker Nationals, and the second best returner in the field at Manhattan, behind only Barrett's 12:13 from the year before. Alex Fisher, a Foot Locker finalist, leads the charge behind, finishing just seconds off Gavenas earlier this Season, while the Tri-State has some of their best competing in the mix as well. It's a loaded field.
