The beauty of High School sports is that there is always a new face ready to debut. Seniors graduate, and new athletes come in to take their place. Each week, we take a look at one of the names that are here to stay over the next few years, as they take on the veterans of our Sport.

Fiona King (Northport) took home the fastest time of the day in the merge at Queensbury, bettering the marks of both the reigning Class B and Class C State Champions, while also grabbing a faster Speed Rating than the Class A State Champion elsewhere. It's still early, but it's a strong debut for the 8th Grader from Section 11, based in Suffolk County of Long Island.
Northport is no stranger to developing talent at the younger level. The Wickard sisters have been competing for Northport since Middle School, now making up a portion of their current Varsity squad. Jane Tucker is another 8th grader in their Top 7 from the weekend. And King herself is already a one-year-veteran of the sport.
Last year, King notched a win at the competitive Section 1 Coaches Invite, went on to qualify for States, and then compete at Nike Cross Regionals. On the track, King put out a 10:36 effort over 3000m Indoors, and then dropped that time to 10:18 Outdoors. That significant drop boded well for Cross Country, and that bore out on the course at Queensbury.
Hear from King below on her Summer Training, and what's next on the horizon for the breakout athlete.
