The magic barrier was crested twice this May, and our streak is on another run. We had a good decade of dominance in the event, before COVID reset the numbers. But over the past three years, the distance has been hit once again.
Peter Northrup (Penfield) is the Indoor State Champion, upsetting the top Seed in the finals of the throw. His rotation in the circle over the glide also aided him into a silver medal in the Weight Throw. He ended his Senior Indoor Campaign with a best of 58-1.5.
Outdoors, he's broken through. On May 4th, he first cracked that 60-foot barrier at the Batavia Invitational, where he tossed a four foot personal best of 61-11.75. One week later, at the Victor Invitational, he reaffirmed his dominance, putting one out at 60-3.25. Northrup's best effort is the furthest throw by a New Yorker since 2022. Over the weekend, Northrup added to his personal bests by hitting 183-11 in the Discus, good for NY #2 in the event.
Close behind Northrup is Braiden Pulver (Shenendehowa), who ended Indoors with the top mark of the Season. Outdoors, Pulver has improved as well, moving all the way up to 59-2. New York has not seen multiple throwers over 60-feet since 2017.
